Meet Our Educators!

Jeanmarie Reel Jacoby M.Ed.

  

  • Jeanmarie Jacoby has over 32 years experience in the field of special education. She earned her master's degree in special education and holds a graduate certificate in Assistive Technology Applications. Originally from the Boston area, Jeanmarie worked first a teacher, then as an AT consultant and Special Education Supervisor for 15 years. Warmer climates beckoned and after a brief experience teaching resource for the American International Schools in Venezuela, Jeanmarie settled in Phoenix, Arizona. Her many roles in special education include program specialist, AT Trainer and Adjunct Instructor at Grand Canyon University and Northern Arizona University.  Jeanmarie has received several awards for her teaching and advocacy roles for students with disabilities including, “Outstanding Educator” from the Phoenix Mayor’s Commission on Disability Issues. Through her role as Director or Exceptional Teaching Solutions, Jeanmarie has provided trainings and workshops for parents and teachers nationally and internationally. She is passionate about advocating for students with disabilities, sharing her experiences, mentoring new teachers and providing training for parents and educators in an effort to make the world a more inclusive environment for everyone. 

Candice Steel SLP-L, ATP

  • Candice has worked with individuals with disabilities for nearly 20 years in many different roles including habilitation therapist, one-on-one assistant, substitute teacher and speech-language pathology assistant.  A majority of the time was as a speech-language therapist with a focus in augmentative alternative communication (AAC) and assistive technology (AT). Candice has received training in various aspects of AT, speech/language techniques, behavior analysis/management and leadership.  She received her Bachelor of Science in Speech and Hearing Science from Arizona State University.  She is a licensed SLP-L  in the state of Arizona and is a certified Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) through The Rehabilitation, Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA).     She has presented at local and national conferences on topics involving: AAC implementation, programs and supports for adult AAC users, and employment. Candice is a strong advocate for giving individuals with disabilities a voice and a path toward an inclusive life. 

Ricki Light M.Ed.

  • Over the past thirty seven years, Rick Light has enjoyed a varied and rewarding career in the field of special education.  For the past seventeen years she has been an Educational Advocate and Strategist in Arizona. The twenty years  prior to that, Ricki was a special educator in public school systems Canada and the US.  In addition to working with educational teams as an advocate, her experiences in the field of education have included facilitating social skills groups for children and teens on the Autism Spectrum, being a classroom teacher for children and teens with moderate to severe academic, social and behavioral needs, being a district Least Restrictive Environment Facilitator, Special Education Program Specialist, Behavior Specialist, Department Chairperson and Career and Transition Teacher.  
    Ricki holds master’s degrees  in counseling and school administration as well as bachelor of science degrees in education and psychology.  She has been certified in k-12 general and special education as well as in  school administration. Ricki has also completed various local and national legal advocacy trainings related to the field of special education.
    She has presented at conferences held locally, nationally and internationally on topics that include; positive behavior supports, classroom management and inclusive techniques to use when working with children and young adults with unique learning, attention, social, behavioral, emotional and communication differences.   Ricki is focused on designing classroom strategies that meet the unique learning, academic, social, emotional and/or behavioral needs of her clients, while working in collaboration with all members of the medical, therapeutic and educational teams.

Elizabeth Burbridge Gingerich M.Ed.

  • Elizabeth has worked in the field of special education for almost a decade. She earned her Bachelor's of Special Education from Arizona State University where she was recognized with the Outstanding Student Achievement Award in Special Education.Elizabeth went onto teach children with Autism Spectrum Disorder for six years. Her love for teaching children on the Autism Spectrum prompted her to further her education in Applied Behavior Analysis by obtaining her master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction Teaching and Learning. Elizabeth has been trained in many therapies and interventions for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) which include TEACCH, Structured Teaching, Discrete Trial Training and Pivotal Response Training.  In the last year, she worked as a Special Services Specialist where she is coaches teachers in classroom management, collecting data, and implementing academic and behavior strategies as well as  monitoring  compliance. Elizabeth believes in educating professionals to best meet the needs of all students. When students are given the tools they need to succeed, progress is made in academics, socialization, communication and functional skills.

Yes, though our focus  is on training teachers of special education students, we provide training and strategies to the entire team working with exceptional learners.
